About the Gers
It was here in the heart of Gascony, not far from Auch, that D’Artagnan, the most famous musketeer of the French king, was born. A number of local museums and monuments recall his heritage which is still close to our hearts.

Take your time to discover the Gers countryside. You’ll enjoy its charming typical villages and bastides, its rolling landscapes, its famous and wholesome rustic gastronomy, and of course the locals with their distinctive accents.

But this tranquil countryside can also be upbeat and lively. Many summer festivals take place in the south of France and particularly in the Gers. The annual August Jazz in Marciac festival is internationally renowned. The country music festival takes place during the second week-end of July in Mirande and features some of America’s well known acts. Tempo Latino in Vic-Fezensac reveals the Gascons’ Latin character together with the ferias and the passion for rugby. The capital town of Auch however, remains the cultural centre of this lightly populated département.

Among the important vineyards of the Gers, we must mention three full-bodied Tannat red wines: Côtes de St Mont (mostly in the Gers), Madiran and Tursan (partly in the Landes area). Also, not to be forgotten is the Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, an exceptional white wine, either dry of sweet, with a subtle strawberry flavour.

How to get there.
Despite there being no motorways in the Gers, the pleasant N124 and N21 main roads generally have free moving traffic (towards Toulouse it can be a bit busier).
From Bordeaux/Agen Take the N113 or the A62 motorway to Agen (exit no. 7 on the A62). Then take the N21 to Lectoure, Fleurance and Auch).
From Toulouse The N124 trunk road leads directly to Auch
(follow L’Isle Jourdain, then Gimont).
From Bayonne/Pau Follow the N117 or the A64 motorway to Tarbes (via Pau).
At Tarbes, take the N21 towards Auch.
